Week of April 27th

Weekly Learning

Reading: Two syllable words with c ending and one syllable words with ck ending will be taught this week.  We will also cover adding suffixes to the end of two syllable words.  Hippity Hoppity is a short story that will focus our attention on new vocabulary as well as understanding what we read.  We will do a "Close Reading" of this text and look at key areas of the text to determine the meaning of new words through context clues and discussion.  We will read this story 4-5 times this week.

Writing: The Egg Journal is underway.  We will complete a weekly writing about the progress of the eggs and continue to monitor their development.

Math: Topic 15 is all about Geometry and shapes.  We will learn names of shapes, organize them, and sort them according to various attributes.  Next, using shapes to construct new shapes and building our math vocabulary will be emphasized.  Topic 16 will kick off learning regarding data.

Social Studies and Science: Living things will be everywhere.  We are now embracing insects and eggs.  Social Studies learning will cover Earth Day and taking care of our community.
