Weekly Learning
Reading: Vowel consonant e words are now becoming more familiar to us. We are working with these words this week and adding suffixes to them. Adding to these words are two syllable words. Our story for the week will be It Takes a Village. Comprehension is always our main focus from every reading, but we will emphasize demonstrating that understanding through discussion with text evidence as support. We will also learn about character traits and create a life size Yemi or Kokou to display the traits each character demonstrated throughout the story.
Writing: Recording our ideas in a journal will be our writing practice this week. Proper capitalization, organization, punctuation, and spelling will be stressed as it has the entire school year. Also staying on topic or one big idea throughout the writing will be an area we reinforce during journal writing.
Math: Topic 15 is all about Geometry and shapes. We will learn names of shapes, organize them, and sort them according to various attributes.
Social Studies and Science: Science class will be wrapping up learning about the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. We will end with exploding pop and other fun experiments. Working on time lines will be the focus of our Social Studies learning this week.
