Weekly Learning
Reading: We are working on tapping/sounding out 5-6 letter words this week. We are continuing to learn new vowel teams (ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, oi, oy, oo, oe, ow, ue, ew) to help us become more accurate and fluent readers. Added to this latest work are the /ed/ and /ing/ suffixes. This week we will read a shortened version of Frog and Toad. These two friends are great examples of how to work together and be kind to each other. We will focus on understanding what we read and using our Fundations learning to figure out unknown or challenging words.
Writing: A report on George Washington or Abraham Lincoln will wrap up this week. This will be our first information writing and require a new type of writing style. Proper capitalization, organization, punctuation, and spelling will be stressed as well as using our resources for information to ensure accurate details.
Math: Topic 10 will end with a test on Monday. Next, we will turn our attention to subtraction with one and two digit numbers. Any practice at home with facts and place will go greatly reinforce the math concepts from the last month and prepare us for future learning.
Social Studies and Science: Science learning will be revolving around the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Social Studies time will be spent reading about Dr. Seuss and is impact on young students learning to read and love literature.
