Weekly Learning
Reading: Vowel consonant e words are now becoming more familiar to us. We are working with these words this week and adding suffixes to them. Please keep supporting your child at home while reading each night. Our story for the week will be The Plant Castle. Comprehension is always our main focus from every reading, but we will emphasize demonstrating that understanding through discussion with text evidence as support. We will use a venn diagram to compare and contrast two settings from the story. Ask you son or daughter how the settings are alike and different when they bring the venn diagram home.
Writing: Recording our ideas in a journal will be our writing practice this week. Proper capitalization, organization, punctuation, and spelling will be stressed as it has the entire school year. Also staying on topic or one big idea throughout the writing will be an area we reinforce during journal writing.
Math: Topic 12 will wrap up this week and we will move on to telling time. This is new to us, but please practice at home if possible. You may need to dig out that old analog clock.
Social Studies and Science: Science class will challenge students to learn about properties of liquids. We will use some new vocabulary: translucent, transparent, and viscous. Working on time lines will be the focus of our Social Studies learning this week.
