Week of March 16th

Weekly Learning

Reading: Vowel consonant e words are now becoming more familiar to us.  While using these words, we are continuing to work with vowel teams, r controlled vowels, and many more rules of the English language.  Please keep supporting your child at home while reading each night.  Our story for the week will be The Magic Fish.  Comprehension is always our main focus from every reading, but we will emphasize demonstrating that understanding through discussion with text evidence as support.  We will also highlight key words and details that help us recognize the why the author included specific words to help us understand the characters' feelings.

Writing: Recording our ideas in a journal will be our writing practice this week.  Proper capitalization, organization, punctuation, and spelling will be stressed as it has the entire school year.  Also staying on topic or one big idea throughout the writing will be an area we reinforce during journal writing.

Math: Topic 12 is underway with a focus on measuring.  We will measure with objects around the classroom and compare lengths of many items.  We will also use a ruler to begin standard measurement practice.

Social Studies and Science: Science class will challenge students to construct a bridge and tower with peers.  We will learn the word engineer and how engineers are also scientists.  Creating time lines about our school year to this point will be our Social Studies learning this week.
