Weekly Learning
Reading: We are working on tapping/sounding out 5 letter words this week. We are continuing to learn new vowel teams (ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, oi, oy, oo, oe, ow) to help us become more accurate and fluent readers. The Mitten is the story for this week. This wonderful book has great illustrations to match the words and allows students to enjoy reading and listening. We will work with understanding what we read and focus on learning new vocabulary through picture clues and context clues.
Writing: Finishing our story of a snowy day outside will be our task this week. We will follow the writing process and create an illustration to enhance our writing. Building on previous learning and improving our writing content, spelling, grammar, and punctuation will be the focus for this week and the rest of the school year.
Math: Topic 9 will explore comparing numbers to 100. We will use our knowledge of ones, tens, and hundreds places to compare numbers. Any games you can play at home to help reinforce the place values would be great.
Social Studies and Science: Science learning will be revolving around the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Social Studies will be focusing on President's Day and starting to gather information about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
