Week of November 3rd

Weekly Learning

Reading: Suffixes is the latest component to be included with our FUNdations learning.  We are building words using the many rules we have learned and the words are moving beyond the basic consonant, vowel, consonant words.  We will read Caps, Hats, Socks, and Mittens (240 lexile level) during class this week.  Throughout the story, we will focus on comprehending what we read while using text evidence to support our responses.  Students will use a venn diagram to compare and contrast two seasons.  Please work on comprehension daily with your child by asking them the 5 W's.  If your child can tell you who, what, when, how, or why about the story being read or listened to, then strong comprehension is taking place.

Writing: A seasons book is in the works.  After reading about the seasons, we will write about each season and create unique season books.  Look for our capital letters, spelling, grammar, and punctuation to be improved since the beginning of the school year.

Math: Topic 4 will wrap up this week with a test on Friday.  The emphasis was on solving addition and subtraction facts using different methods.  Many of the methods were challenging and will be revisited throughout the school year.  Please check out the Xtramath or Sumdog websites to allow your child to practice at home in a fun way.

Social Studies and Science: Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving will be the topics covered during November for Social Studies.  Science...coming soon.!
