Weekly Learning
Reading: We will continue to work with consonant, vowel, consonant (cvc) words with short vowel sounds as well as including words with consonant digraphs. The digraphs we will practice are two letters sticking together to create one sound /th/, /sh/, /wh/, /ck/, and /ch/. This will help us be able to read more words in texts. We will read two stories this week with an emphasis on understanding what we read, recognizing problem and solutions within texts, and identifying the main idea and details of a story. Sounding our unknown words and understanding what we read will also be reinforced.
Writing: Writing a journal entry about our weekend as well as journaling about any topic we are interested in will fill our writing time this week. Creating basic sentences from personal experiences with an emphasis on using correct punctuation, spelling, and capital letters are areas of focus.
Math: Topic 2 continues with showing way to solve subtraction problems through various strategies. Please check out the Xtramath or Sumdog websites to check our progress on some math skills.
Social Studies and Science: Living things are alive in our room. We have a very large wolf spider and enjoy checking him out whenever there is a free moment. Hunting for living and nonliving items are one way will put our science knowledge to the test.
