Weekly Learning
Reading: We will continue to work with consonant, vowel, consonant (cvc) words with short vowel sounds, consonant digraphs, and bonus letters. The digraphs we will practice are two letters sticking together to create one sound /th/, /sh/, /wh/, /ck/, and /ch/. The bonus letters are when /ll/, /ff/, and /ss/ are doubled at the end of words that have a short vowel before one those sets of letters. This is a new concept and will take time to develop a secure level of understanding. We will read What is in the Egg? This story will challenge us to make predictions and use our reading strategies to decide what is hidden.
Writing: We will write about what is hidden in the egg. We will also journal this week about something that can be hidden. Creating basic sentences from personal experiences with an emphasis on using correct punctuation, spelling, and capital letters are areas of focus.
Math: Topic 2 continues with showing way to solve subtraction problems through various strategies. Please check out the Xtramath or Sumdog websites to check our progress on some math skills.
Social Studies and Science: Living things are alive in our room. We have a very large wolf spider and enjoy checking him out whenever there is a free moment. Hunting for living and nonliving items are one way we will put our science knowledge to the test.
