Weekly Learning
Reading: We will continue to work with consonant, vowel, consonant (cvc) words with short vowel sounds as well as including words with consonant digraphs. The digraphs we will practice are two letters sticking together to create one sound /th/, /sh/, /wh/, /ck/, and /ch/. This will help us be able to read more words in texts. Apple season and fall are arriving as we will read a variety of books on apples, apple picking, and Johnny Appleseed. Sounding our unknown words and understanding what we read will be an emphasized this week.
Writing: Writing a friendly letter about our weekend, in our journal about the field trip to the apple orchard and directions for making applesauce are on the agenda this week. Creating basic sentences from personal experiences with an emphasis on using correct punctuation, spelling, and capital letters will be our writing work.
Math: Topic 1 continues with showing way to make various numbers, also called adding. We will take a test on Wednesday and start Topic 2 covering subtraction on Thursday. Please check out the Xtramath or Sumdog websites to reinforce our math skills.
Social Studies and Science: Living things are alive in our room. We have a very large wolf spider and enjoy checking him out whenever there is a free moment. We will not switch this week due to the field trip.
