Week of March 31

Weekly Learning:

Reading: We will reread Fire in Yellowstone (820 lexile level).  This is a non-fiction selection with great imagery and photographs to accompany the words.  We will use the text to support our ideas and answers while gaining knowledge about a fire that took place in Yellowstone National Park.  We will investigate why the author incorporated specific words and how those words impact the selection and our perspective of the story.
Spelling: Please check the spelling tab.
Writing: Locating and writing the main idea and details will be our focus this week.  After practicing this skill with our weekly story, we will work on this topic more next week.
Math: Topic 11 is underway about geometry.  We will focus on learning a wide range of new vocabulary: ray, vertex, line, line segment, endpoint, angle, right angle, acute, angle, obtuse angle, and many more.  Identifying and creating polygons will take place this week as well.  We have been practicing our math skills through extra worksheets, playing games with partners and online, and incorporating Khan Academy more into our daily routine.

Social Studies: This is the last week students will visit Mr. Provenza's room to learn about the economy and our government structure.

Fire In Yellowstone was a bit scary for the animals, visitors, and park rangers. We enjoyed the story. We hope to learn more!
