Weekly Learning:
Reading: We are in the middle of reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl (lexile 810). The plot is getting interesting with character misbehaving and the zany Mr. Wonka acting crazy at every turn of a page. We are continuing to focus on reading for understanding with an emphasis on accuracy and fluency. We are continuing to discuss character traits or attributes, how those qualities affect a story, and summarizing chapters. Answering comprehension questions is another aspect of our reading work.
Spelling: Please check the spelling tab for words.
Writing: We will continue writing about characters and rooms from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We will emphasis using text evidence to create a clear picture in the mind of the reader.
Math: Topic 9 will focus on fractions. We will work with dividing whole regions or sets into equal parts, locate fractions on a number line, and use fractions as length. We will learn new vocabulary with topic 9: numerator, denominator, mixed numbers, halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths, and tenths, twelfths.
Social Studies: We will be using an atlas as well as our Social Studies book to read maps and practice reading many kinds of maps.
