Week of September 2nd

Welcome back to school on Tuesday, yes Tuesday.  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with an extra day of family time.

Weekly Learning:

Reading: We will read The Three Little Javelinas.  It is a fun version the The Three Little Pigs.  We will focus on understanding what we read, using key vocabulary to understand the author's message, and summarizing each page to ensure comprehension.
Spelling: Please check the spelling tab for our words.  We will also be practicing our words during guided reading time.
Writing: We already started our main writing for the week with an emphasis on using transition words to start the next sentence.  Using capital letters to start sentences and correct punctuation at the end of sentences are areas of importance early in the year.
Math: Numeration continues to be the focus this week.  We will order numbers according to value.  The end of the week will be review our upcoming math test.  Please check out the Pearson website for extra practice or videos.  You may also see scores of online quizzes your child has finished.
Science: We will conduct beetle group work today by building beetles with the correct head, abdomen, and thorax.  Don't worry, just paper beetles.  We will examine a dead cicada with a magnifying glass though!
