Weekly Learning:
Reading: We will read The Legend of the Persian Carpet. This story has a moral or lesson to be learned from reading, so be sure to ask your child what the lesson is on Thursday or Friday. We will focus on understanding what we read, using key vocabulary to understand the author's message, and summarizing each page to ensure comprehension. Identifying supporting details is a key skill we will focus on as well.
Spelling: Please check the spelling tab for our words. We will also be practicing our words during guided reading time.
Writing: We are finishing personal narratives early in the week. They will come home next week or the week after with a rubric for a final grade. This is our first official writing, so it took a long time to conclude. At the end of the week we will be starting a new task of writing a familiar story we know.
Math: Using mental math to solve addition and subtraction problems will be covered this week. Another topic will be estimating sums and differences. Please check out the Pearson website for extra practice or videos. You may also see scores of online quizzes your child has finished.
Science: Our classroom pets are growing daily. More insects are being brought in and we love it! The next concept will be adaptations to assist animals in surviving various environments.
